Medieval Miniatures

This page is dedicated to my little tributes to the weird and wonderful illustrations found in the margins of medieval illuminated manuscripts. The humanity and humour of the artists that created these books really comes to life once you start noticing the margins. My versions are created with many liberties and embellishments of my own, typically using a combination of watercolour, ink, casein or egg tempera, mounted to a wooden panel and varnished, My favourite part of the process is gilding and embellishing each piece using real gold leaf, which gleams beautifully and will never tarnish. All of these pieces are framed and ready to hang in small nooks. The sizes shown below indicate the total outer footprint of the framed artwork.
