This miniature painting was inspired by an illustration of a young man catching bees, found in the margins of the Maastricht Book of Hours, an illuminated manuscript created c1300 - 1325. The original manuscript is currently in the care of the British Library and is, sadly, not available online following a cyber attack. For the time being, a selection of high resolution images can be found in Wikimedia Commons.
My tribute painting has been created, with liberties and embellishments, using watercolour, ink and casein, embellished with 23.75 carat gold. The painting is varnished and mounted to a wooden panel and offered ready to hang in a beautiful 9½” x 7½” wooden frame.
