'Bewitched' (watercolour and gold leaf on wooden panel)

£150.00

This painting was inspired by an illustration in the margin of a poem entitled ‘Les Champion des Dames’ by Martin le Franc (1451). It’s often cited as the first known depiction of a witch* on a broomstick and I love how cheerful and uncomplicated she looks as she soars on her broom.

My version is a recreation, with many liberties and embellishments, using watercolour, casein and 23.75 carat embellished gold, mounted onto a wooden panel and varnished.

The listed price includes free UK shipping. I am very happy to ship worldwide upon request. (If you live outside the UK, please contact me to discuss the postage options for your country.)

* in this case, the ‘witch’ is actually a member of the Waldesians, a Christan sect seen as heretical by the pope.
