Blemmye (7.5" x 7.5")

£125.00

This little blemmye was inspired by a tiny illustration in 'Liber de Natura Rerum' - a fascinating early 13th century encyclopaedia by Thomas de Cantimpré, which includes a section on the ‘monstrous human races of the east’. Thanks to the wonders of the modern world, a digital facsimile of these manuscripts has been made available for public access by the Bibliothèque Municipale de Valenciennes.

My tribute painting has been created with many liberties of my own, using watercolour, ink and casein, embellished with 23.75 carat gold leaf. The painting is varnished and mounted to a wooden panel and offered ready to hang in a beautiful 7½” square wooden frame.

The listed price includes free UK shipping. I am happy to ship worldwide. (If you live outside the UK, please contact me to discuss the postage options for your country.)
