This little blemmye was inspired by a small illumination in 'Liber de Natura Rerum' - a fascinating 13th century encyclopaedia that includes a whole chapter on the ‘monstrous human races of the east’.
My version has been recreated with many liberties of my own, using watercolour, casein and 23.75 carat gold leaf, varnished and mounted to a wooden panel.
The painting is framed and ready to hang in a beautiful 7½” square wooden frame.
